Exploring Miami's Culinary Gems: New Favorites and Timeless Classics
Get out and about to enjoy delicious meals at these Miami restaurants
Dear Food and Wine Lovers,
I hope your summer has been as delightful as a perfectly chilled glass of rosé! As the sun blazes over Miami (in between thunderstorms), I’ve had the pleasure of dining at some of our city’s finest establishments - both new and beloved classics. Today, I’m excited to share my experiences with you and perhaps inspire your next culinary adventure.
Also, some of these restaurants are participating in Miami Spice coming up in August and September. Check their linked schedules below to see which nights and meals apply to each spot.
1. Lafayette Steakhouse, Brickell
Stepping into Lafayette Steakhouse feels like entering a realm where classic steakhouse elegance meets contemporary flair. The ambiance is sophisticated yet welcoming, perfect for a luxurious dining experience. Highlights include their perfectly seared ribeye, creamy mashed potatoes, and a wine list that boasts a stunning selection of bottles at all different price points, with an emphasis on classic steakhouse reds from France and California. Don’t miss their signature cocktail – a refreshing twist on the Old Fashioned.
2. Doma, Wynwood
Nestled on a sidestreet in the heart of Wynwood, Doma is an Italian gem that has captured my heart (and taste buds). The whole branzino is a must-try, expertly prepared and bursting with fresh flavor. Their ragu bao buns offer a delightful fusion of textures and tastes, while the beef tartare embodies artistry and culinary prowess. Paired with a crisp Pinot Bianco from Alto Adige, every bite is a journey to Italy. The wine list here is exceptional, making it a top recommendation for wine enthusiasts, which is why I included it as one of my recommended restaurants for Star Wine List.

3. Sereia, Coconut Grove
If you’re looking for an unforgettable dining experience, Sereia is a must. Earlier this month, we enjoyed another BYOB wine dinner here, and it was one of the best yet! Sereia is not just a beautiful space; the elevated Portuguese cuisine is just what we needed in our Coconut Grove neighborhood. If you haven’t experienced it yet, take some time this summer to check it out. Make sure you enjoy a bottle of Portuguese wine from the list while you’re there!

4. Michael’s Genuine Food & Drink, Design District
Michael’s Genuine is a testament to the power of locally sourced, seasonal ingredients. The menu changes regularly, reflecting the freshest produce and finest meats available. Their wood oven-roasted dishes are a highlight, and the restaurant’s warm, inviting atmosphere makes it perfect for any occasion. Pair your meal with one of their expertly curated wines or craft cocktails for a truly memorable experience. This is another restaurant you will find on Star Wine List.

5. Emissary Miami, Coconut Grove
Coconut Grove’s latest addition, Emissary Miami, is a charming coffee house that’s quickly becoming a neighborhood favorite. Their delectable pastries and breakfast items, like overnight oats and avocado toast, are the perfect start to any day. The cozy atmosphere makes it an ideal spot to relax and unwind, especially after an early morning walk or bike ride. Plus, exciting news for wine lovers: Emissary will soon start serving wine, adding a much-needed quaint wine bar to the vibrant Coconut Grove scene.
6. Pastis, Wynwood
Located in Wynwood, Pastis has become quite the hotspot for a French-inspired meal. The ambiance is both lively and welcoming, with a bustling bistro vibe. It’s worth ordering multiple items from the menu on any visit, and the brunch offerings, like the fluffy buttermilk pancakes, are simply incredible (and enough for multiple meals). I had the pleasure of joining their Bastille Day celebrations, complete with Champagne Laurent-Perrier, making it a delicious and festive experience. Whether you’re looking for a leisurely family brunch or a place fit for an adult celebration, Pastis delivers on all fronts.
7. Amara at Paraiso, Edgewater
Amara at Paraiso is a waterfront oasis offering some of Miami’s best South American-inspired seafood and meat dishes. Under the expert guidance of Chef Ivan Barros, winner of Season 2 of Ciao House, the menu features an array of innovative and flavorful dishes. The Morcilla stuffed squid is a standout, bursting with fresh herb flavors, and the charred octopus is cooked to perfection. Pictured is the Arrollado de Huaso (pork belly) with canary beans, herb salad, and avocado salsa. The restaurant's elegant yet relaxed atmosphere and stunning views of Biscayne Bay, make it a must-visit destination for any culinary enthusiast. Amara is also featured on Star Wine List’s Miami guide.

8. AhuMar, Brickell
In the old Fi'lia spot at the now DUA Hotel in Brickell, AhuMar is a beautiful space where Chef Victor Rosado, who was at the helm at Fi'lia, remains and has added his spin on wood-fired seafood cuisine. The ingredients are fresh, and each dish is full of flavor, making AhuMar a nice addition to Brickell’s popular dining scene, and a welcomed replacement for the much-loved Fi’lia. The upcoming Miami Spice menu is fantastic and includes the traditional three courses and an opening small plate to ensure you absolutely do not leave hungry. This new restaurant should be on your list to explore during your Miami “spicing” next month.
